The Learning Services Home and School Association is sponsoring a seminar on Identifying Depression in Middle or High School Children on Wednesday, April 22 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the third floor conference room at the Ridgewood Board of Education. Specialists Sara M. Calvert, MD and Nancy Borders, LCSW will focus on recognizing the symptoms and differentiating them from moodiness, then discuss pathology, medication, therapy, and more options for helping a child. Dr. Calvert practices in the New Jersey Family Practice Group in Paramus, treating children, adolescents, and adults. She also consults for the Children’s Aid and Family Services, a foster care and adoption care agency based in Paramus. Dr. Calvert has extensive training in general psychiatry for Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, and subspecialty training in child and adolescent psychiatry from New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia Medical Center and Weill-Cornell Medical Center in New York, where she serves on the voluntary faculty. Fifty children and their families turned out for the annual Easter Egg Hunt at West Side Presbyterian Church on Palm Sunday. Activities included crafts, snacks and drinks, a sing-along with Lynette Parks, an egg hunt on the lawn by the Youth Barn and an appearance by the Easter Bunny.
