The Fokine Ballet Company’s 52nd Annual “Nutcracker,” will be performed Dec. 11 at 10 a.m., and Dec. 12 and 13 at 3 p.m. at Bergen Academies, 200 Hackensack Avenue in Hackensack. “The Nutcracker” is a fairytale ballet composed in 18911892 by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. First performed in Saint Petersburg, Russia in December 1892, the ballet has become a Christmas tradition. The Fokine “Nutcracker” has been choreographed by renowned artist and dancer Irine Fokine, who has been teaching ballet for 60 years, and is still attracting dancers from around the world to her school in Ridgewood. Fokine was one of the first choreographers to bring “The Nutcracker” to the American stage more than 50 years ago with a production she adapted from the original first staged by the Maryinski Theater. Through her unwavering commit-
ment to this professional production, Fokine pays tribute to her mother, who performed in that original production, and renews her personal link to this most cherished chapter in ballet history. In 1957, Fokine founded the Fokine Ballet Company, a non-profit organization, to showcase her teaching and trademarked “Nutcracker,” which combines professional performers with students. Katelin Marie Ahern, a 17-year-old student at Master Ballet Academy in Phoenix, AZ, under the direction of Slawomir and Irena Wozniak, the world famous dancers from the Wilki Theater in Warsaw, Poland, will reprise her dazzling Sugar Plum Fairy, partnered by Slawomir Wozniak Jr. in the role of Cavalier. Cece Montgomery, a student in the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School of American Ballet Theater in New York
