Dry cleaning is more than a profession. It is a science, and an art.
We have perfected this art by practicing, learning, and developing our skills and knowledge since 1925, when our company first came to Ridgewood. We are the only dry cleaner in this area that uses only Stodard Solvent, the recognized best dry cleaning solvent for all your garments. The others use perchloroethelyne, a known carcinogen and harsh solvent that depletes garment feel and color. Compare our prices for an outstanding service: Suits $7.50 (men’s & ladies’), Pants $3.75, Skirts $3.75, Sweaters $3.75 Shirts Laundered $1.50 on hanger, Table Cloths from $8.50 DRY CLEANER • TAILOR • LAUNDRY • FURRIER

New Jersey Transit project slated to start this week
by John Koster The groundbreaking for the New Jersey Transit project to renovate the Ridgewood railroad station is scheduled to begin this week based on reports to the Ridgewood administrative staff. The construction, to be carried out at the expense of NJ Transit and the federal government, calls for closing the railroad rightof-way for only two weekends to replace ties and sleepers. Plans were discussed at great length between the Ridgewood Village Council and NJ Transit officials including Project Manager William Wong and Regional Manager Jim McDermott, who presented schematics and artist’s impressions of the renovation at a number of well-attended public meetings. The plan approved by the council, after substantial negotiation, includes a center island platform 710 feet long, with a side platform 640 feet long, sidewalk access to Ridgewood Avenue, and the preservation of the existing pedestrian tunnel, built in 1916. The tunnel has been cited as a factor in Ridgewood’s record of zero fatalities at railroad intersections. In fact, none of

Ridgewood’s track crossings are at grade level. The project also calls for canopies 350 feet long to begin at the Franklin Avenue Bridge and span. But the plans will preserve the view between the Pease Library and North Broad Street. The height, color, and materials will blend with the present décor. Ramps to permit barrier-free access to and from the platforms will be installed, with two ramps provided at the inbound platform at Station Plaza and Ridge Road. Elevators will serve both platforms, with design elements, materials, and colors as previously approved by the Village of Ridgewood, NJ Transit, and the New Jersey Historic Sites Council. The elevator towers will not be higher than the canopy roofs. NJ Transit officials report that no parking spaces will be permanently lost due to the project. The Ridgewood Village Council previously accepted a grant of $86,600 from the Bergen County Community Development Fund for barrier-free restrooms in the new station and other property improvements to bring the station into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
