Resident mugged by three armed assailants
by John Koster A resident of South Broad Street in Ridgewood told police he was robbed with a knife at his throat while walking to his home at 5:20 p.m. on Jan. 1. The resident described the muggers as three black males in their late teens to early twenties, wearing dark clothing and skullcaps. The Ridgewood man said two of them approached him and demanded money at knifepoint. When he handed over all the money he had, they fled in an unidentified car, and headed south on South Broad Street.

Ridgewood police officers arrested teenagers with marijuana stuffed inside tobacco cigars in two separate instances during the first week of 2009. On Jan. 1 at 10:07 p.m., Patrolman Peter Youngberg stopped a BMW on Garber Square for speeding, and noticed an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. During the search, a hollowed-out cigar that had been stuffed with marijuana was found in the possession of a juvenile. The 18-year-old driver, a Ridgewood resi-

dent, was charged with speeding and with possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. On Jan. 3 at 10:20 p.m., Patrolman John Chuck stopped a motor vehicle on Franklin Avenue and noticed a smell of burnt marijuana. A 16-year-old juvenile from Haledon was found to be in possession of marijuana and was taken into custody and released to a parent pending juvenile action. J. KOSTER
