Career coach offers program Career coach Eli Amdur will present a workshop at the Ridgewood Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. “The Job Market is Ready to Rebound: Are You?” will provide an overview of the job market and offer guidance to job seekers, including a 12-step readiness checklist outlining how today’s candidates need to prepare for tomorrow’s opportunities. Admission is free and no registration is required. This program will take place in the Belcher Auditorium. ‘Unplug the Christmas Machine’ The Parish Health Ministry at Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church will offer a workshop based on Jo Robinson’s book, “Unplug the Christmas Machine,” on Saturday, Nov. 21. Robinson’s book is a guide to celebrating the holidays while resisting rampant commercialism. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the workshop will offer a personal plan reflecting individual values, desires, affections, and traditions. Church hosts Food Drive The Ridgewood United Methodist Church is hosting a turkey/food drive in an effort to fight hunger and poverty. Donations may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the East Room of the church, which is located at 100 Dayton Street. Monetary donations are also welcome. Newcomers host Holiday Boutique, party The YWCA Ridgewood Newcomers Club’s Holiday Boutique is set for Thursday, Nov. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, 113 Cottage Place, Ridgewood. This boutique will feature over 20 vendors offering jewelry, accessories, hostess gifts, home decor, kids’ items, and more. Admission is free. This event is open to all; membership is not required. Proceeds will benefit the YWCA and its programs. The YWCA Ridgewood Newcomers Club International Group will be getting together on Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. for a cocktail party at a member’s home. Nursery School hosts Open House West Side Nursery School, located at 6 South Monroe Street in Ridgewood, will hold a series of Open Houses for
prospective parents. Holiday Fashion Show set A Gala Holiday Fashion Show will be hosted by the Fashion Design Workshop and Sweet Feet Boutique, 41 East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7:15 p.m. Local students ages 10 to 17 will model their own creations designed and sewed at the Fashion Design Workshop. All dresses were designed and made by the students during recent one week summer intensive workshops and after -school programs. There will be a shopping party in the store following the show until 9 p.m. A 15 percent discount on all purchases will be given on this night. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public. OLMC MOMS plan Advent Dinner, caroling OLMC MOMs will host its annual Advent Dinner on Sunday, Nov. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Mount Carmel Parish Center on Passaic Street, Ridgewood. In addition to sharing a pot luck meal, each family will make an Advent wreath and children will have the opportunity to make crafts and decorate cookies. Valley offers free program on anxiety The Valley Hospital Community Health Department is offering a free education program “You’ve Got Some Nerve” on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. at The Dorothy B. Kraft Center, 15 Essex Road, Paramus. Stomach pain, dry mouth, heart palpitations, sweaty palms, and a generalized feeling of doom and gloom are all symptoms of anxiety. This syndrome, sometimes known as “the nerves” is a common disorder among older adults and can have a serious impact on one’s quality of life. Patty MastersonKane, M.S.W., L.C.S.W., Elder Care Options, LLC, and Patty Hemphill, M.S.W., L.C.S.W., of the Valley Hospital will offer information about this disorder, and the various

Employment workshop scheduled Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church’s Career Resources Ministry, in its continuing effort to provide help to people seeking employment, will present the third of a four-part series of fall/winter workshops on Sunday, Nov. 22 at noon. The workshop will be held in the meeting room in the lower church and is open to anyone seeking employment and those who anticipate possible unemployment. Parish membership is not required. These workshops are presented by the Career Resources Ministry whose members are dedicated to helping those seeking employment. Professionals in the field will present the workshop and will be on hand to give advice.
