June 3, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 13 Franklin Lakes Scribe Touring dramatists to perform Franklin Lakes Public Library has invited the Next Stage Ensemble touring drama group to perform “The Odyssey” on Tuesday, June 30 at 7 p.m. in the library’s community room. The ensemble is part of The Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey. The play is a fast-paced, creative retelling of key scenes from Homer’s epic poem. Franklin Lakes residents may register at the adult reference desk. Non-residents may register beginning Monday, June 15. Tickets may be picked up at the adult reference desk. The library is located at 470 DeKorte Drive. Republicans plan meeting The Franklin Lakes Republican Club will meet on Tuesday, June 9 in the Franklin Lakes Ambulance Corps building on Bender Court. Cheerleading coaches sought The Franklin Lakes Recreation Department is seeking experienced cheerleading coaches to coordinate, coach, and develop the program. IronMatt softball tournament set The Matthew Larson Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation is hosting a softball tournament on Saturday, June 13 at 8 a.m. at the Indian Trail Club Home Field. Teams are guaranteed three games plus jersey, lunch, and a beverage. There will be divisions for men and women. Volunteers and sponsors are needed. Luschar to perform patriotic concert Karen Luschar, a former Broadway entertainer, will be performing “Singing for Victory: Songs of WWII” at the Franklin Lakes Public Library on Saturday, June 13 at 2 p.m. This nostalgic mix of the fun and heartfelt songs that kept our country together and hopeful during the Second World War. This concert is scheduled in celebration of Flag Day. All are invited and welcome to attend. There is no registration. Seats are given on a first-come, first-served basis. Figliuolo to discuss party planning Christine Figliuolo, party planner and owner of Creations by Christine, will share resources, experience, and expertise for planning personal events on June 3. The library is located at 470 DeKorte Drive. Seniors travel to Waldorf-Astoria The Franklin Lakes Seniors have sponsored a trip to Waldorf-Astoria in New York City on Tuesday, June 23. The trip will include a behind-the-scenes tour at the hotel famous for being the home away from home for many presidents and foreign dignitaries. Lunch will be in the Oscar American Brasserie, rated as the 10th best restaurant in the country. The bus will leave Franklin Lakes at 9:30 a.m. The cost of the day is $50. There will be a Beginning Computer and Internet Class with two sessions on Wednesday, June 17 and 24 at 11 a.m. A basic Google It! Board of education to meet The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, June 2 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held at Franklin Avenue Middle School. Foundation plans Golf & Tennis Outing The Franklin Lakes Education Foundation will host its Sixth Annual Golf and Tennis Outing on Monday, June 15 at the Preakness Hills Country Club in Wayne. The event will be held in honor of Joe Ryan and Dr. Lillian Ryan. There are golf foursomes and tennis and sponsorship opportunities available. Wetdown planned Franklin Lakes Fire Department will dedicate its new 2009 Pierce Velocity rescue truck at a wetdown on June 13 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Bender Court Firehouse. The Shots will perform. The event will include food, beverages, Tshirts, mugs, and a “bouncy house” for children. The public is welcome to attend.
