New or gently used coats may be dropped off at Kilroy’s Wonder Market, The Grow-cery, or Stacey & Joe’s Family Footwear, all of which are based in the Borough of Glen Rock. Holiday luncheon planned The annual Christmas/Chanukah luncheon of the Activities Club is planned for Dec. 17 at the Brownstone Inn in Paterson. The affair, which will begin at noon, includes a one hour open bar, a four-course lunch, and dancing to the Tony Giannella Orchestra. Members and guests are invited to attend. Activities Club adds bicycling group The Activities Club is forming a bicycle group. Plans are being made for programs on bicycle maintenance and safety, Ridgewood to Rochelle Park bike path rides, long rides, including Greenway path in New York City, and a program to collect and repair of older bikes to be donated to the less fortunate. Health care bill available at library The Glen Rock Public Library now has in its collection the 2,000 page HR 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act. The document has been printed in its entirety and is available at the reference desk. The Glen Rock Library is located at 315 Rock Road. Exhibitors sought The Glen Rock Library is looking for interesting, antique, artistic, silly, beautiful and/or unique collections. The exhibits, which change monthly, are kept in the library’s three display cases. Placards identify the exhibitors. Collectors interested in sharing their cherished objects may call (201) 670-3970. Knitting/crochet leader sought Bergen County 4-H and the Glen Rock Library are looking for a knitting/crocheting leader for a “tween” knitting and crocheting club. The Glen Rock Library will host the once-a-month club, where participants will learn to knit, crochet, or both. Seniors Club welcomes new members The Glen Rock Senior Citizens Club meets every Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the municipal annex. Membership is $5 per year. Members enjoy a full schedule of events, such as meetings, card playing, games, entertainment by speakers and singers, day trips, and more. The Glen Rock Poverty Project is asking residents to sell cards to help build a school in rural Guatemala so children without financial resources can obtain an education. “We are working hard to build a school in Santa Maria de Jesus, a poor village outside of Antiqua, Guatemala,” said Poverty Project Founder Beth Fernandez. “The school will be for the poorest of the poor, who can’t afford the registration and supply fees that can equal up to $250 American. For a farming family that makes $1 or $2 a day, education is impossible. We’re going to change that. “This holiday season, buy or sell our gift cards for $5. They include a handmade worry doll pin from Guatemala. One hundred percent of the money from the cards goes to From Houses to Homes, the New Jersey-based organization that is building the school. If you would like to some cards to sell, or purchase for your holiday gifts, please contact me at beth@loveoldhomes.com.” In recent years, the Glen Rock Poverty Project has helped to construct a house with Habitat for Humanity in Paterson, bought well pumps for villagers in sub-Saharan Africa, and provided mosquito nets to reduce the incidence of malaria in Haiti. The Habitat for Humanity project in particular brought out students from Glen Rock High School, the Hamilton School, Academy of Our Lady in North Haledon, and from Ridgewood High School to work on the construction of sections to be included in the house.
