Hamid novel to be discussed The Mahwah Public Library Morning Book Discussion Group will meet April 20 at 10:30 a.m. and the Evening Book Discussion Group will meet April 22 at 7 p.m. to discuss Mohsin Hamid’s “The Reluctant Fundamentalist.” Pakistani born Changez is living an immigrant’s dream of America. Artists exhibit at Mahwah Museum An exhibit from the art class of the Mahwah Senior Activity Center, which is under the direction of Susanne Small and Pamela Leggate, will be featured at the Mahwah Museum. The 23 piece exhibit includes works in pen and ink, watercolor, colored pencil, and acrylics. Hours will be weekends from 2 to 4 p.m. through May 31. This exhibit is made possible by the Mahwah Museum Society, Inc. and Mahwah Senior Activity Center. The museum is located at 201 Franklin Turnpike. Mahwah. Networking breakfast set The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold a networking breakfast on Tuesday, April 14, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott, 100 Chestnut Ridge Road, Montvale. Tim McChesney will discuss the Meadowlands Xanadu entertainment and shopping complex that is scheduled to open this summer. The cost is $20 for Chamber and $35 for non-members. Planning for Life seminar offered The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold a professional development seminar “Planning for Life: Taking Control of Your Future Now” on Thursday, April 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Paragon Federal Credit Union Conference Center in Montvale. This interactive discussion will focus on healthcare options, financial planning, and living assistance for aging family members. A panel of experts will show how to plan ahead and avoid last minute decisions. Panelists include: Matthew A. Fromowitz from First Metropolitan Mortgage, Mark Fairman from New York Life Insurance Co., Michael A. Forman from First Metropolitan Mortgage, Sophia M. Heftler from Distinctive Care, Brian T. Pancake Breakfast at Holy Cross Holy Cross Lutheran Church, located at the corner of Route 202 North and West Ramapo Avenue, is sponsoring a Pancake Breakfast with the Easter Bunny on Saturday, April 11 starting at 9 a.m. Tickets are $10 for a family of four and $5 for each extra ticket. Children three years old and under will be admitted free of charge. There will be a puppet show for the children at 9:45 a.m. followed by an Easter Egg Hunt. Tickets can be purchased by calling the church office at (201) 529-2117. Library announces closing dates The Mahwah Public Library will be closed April 10, 11, and 12 for the Easter holiday. The library will also be closed on Tuesday, April 28 for the New Jersey Library Association Conference. Seniors plan events The Mahwah Seniors will host a Fashion Show on Thursday, May 21 at noon in the Mahwah Senior Center. The show will feature various designers. Tickets include social hour, lunch, Viennese table, special auction, and fashion show. The cost for members is $10 and $20 for non members. Library hosts exhibits “Second Act: The Mixed Media Artwork of Mozafar Motabar” is on display at the Mahwah Library in April. A Mahwah resident, Motabar came to the United States after a 50-year career in chemical industrial raw materials and agricultural chemicals. He volunteers at the Mahwah Senior Center and is a member of its art classes. His first experience in painting is on display until the end of April and includes pieces in pencil, watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink, and charcoal. Motabar is also a poet and calligrapher. Also on display is “Skylands: The New Jersey State Botanical Gardens” through May. The exhibit features photographs, historic postcards, pressed and dried flowers, books, Skylands’ history and current activities, and garden fixtures and memorabilia showcasing the gardens.
