Page 2 THE VILLADOM TIMES I, II, III & IV • April 22, 2009 Villadom Happenings Roads to close for baseball/softball parade The Annual Wyckoff Baseball/Softball Parade which starts at Memorial Field at 10 a.m. on April 25, will result in the temporary closing of the following roads: Monroe Avenue, Woodland Avenue from the recreation office to Monroe Avenue, Voorhis Avenue from High Street to Woodland Avenue and Wyckoff Avenue between Brownstone Court and Russell Avenue. The parade will end at the Wyckoff Community Park, and all roadways should be open by 11:30 a.m. Residents and motorists should anticipate traffic delays when driving through Wyckoff. Motorists traveling through Wyckoff on April 25, from 9:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. should drive with caution, plan an alternate route, and allow for more travel time. League offer public forum On Wednesday, April 29, the Bergen County League of Women Voters will sponsor a public forum, “All about Voting,” at the county complex in Hackensack. Beginning at 1 p.m., Bergen County election officials will explain their roles and discuss specific measures to ensure accuracy, reliability, and ballot secrecy. This forum will be presented at One Bergen County Plaza. Further directions will be provided by security personnel at the entrance. On site parking is available. American Cross seeks heroes The American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey will hold its Eleventh Annual Heroes Breakfast honoring local heroes on Wednesday, June 3 at 7:30 a.m. The event is sponsored by Unilever and will be held at the Englewood Cliffs office. Residents of Bergen, Hudson, Essex, Warren, Morris and Passaic counties may nominate their local heroes for recognition at the breakfast. Candidates can be men, women, children, or animals who have demonstrated quick thinking and great courage in time of crisis. Winners will be honored at the event at Unilever, 700 Sylvan Avenue in Englewood Cliffs. Tickets are $45 each; contact the American Red Cross. Corporate hero sponsorships are available for $2,500, which includes the sponsorship of a hero, a table of 10, and sponsorship recognition. Proceeds from the Heroes Breakfast help the Chapter serve 3.5 million neighbors. Program for teens and parents offered The Church of Saint Elizabeth in Wyckoff invites teens from all parishes and youth groups to attend a program featuring chastity speaker Jason Evert on Tuesday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. The program will be held at the church at 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff. There will also be a parents’ presentation on Wednesday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Don Bosco Prep auditorium. Don Bosco is located at 492 North Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey. Evert holds a master’s degree in theology and counseling from Franciscan University of Steubenville. He is a fulltime apologist for Catholic Answers in San Diego, and has appeared on international television and radio. Letter carriers seek food donations The National Association of Letter Carriers is holding its annual Food Drive on Saturday, May 9. Postal patrons The Bergen County Players will present ‘The Sunshine Boys,’ a classic comedy by Neil Simon. Performances will be held at the Little Firehouse theater, 298 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell, May 2 through 31. This Food Drive is one of the largest in the country and helps sustain many food banks. Wine Tasting comes to Mill Gardens Mill Gardens Assisted Living in Midland Park will host its Second Annual Wine Tasting on Thursday, April 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. The evening will include fine wines and hors d’oeuvres and live music. Pandemic seminar scheduled The Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission is holding a seminar, “Planning for Pandemic Flu: Managing the Challenges-Two Town’s Perspective,” on Wednesday, April 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Waldwick Ambulance Building. Health educator Sabrina Moon will discuss pandemic influenza. In addition, Barbara Decare, president, Hillsdale Board of Health; William Franklin, Hillsdale Emergency Management coordinator; Jeff Allyn, Midland Park Emergency Management coordinator; and J. William Van Dyke, Midland Park Board of Health, will speak on how two municipalities are preparing for pandemic influenza. Commission seeks prom attire donations The 2008-2009 Junior Commission is sponsoring a Prom Dress Drive through Friday, May 15. The commission is accepting donations of new or clean, gently worn formal attire and accessories that will be distributed to Bergen County girls in need. The Prom Dress Drive will help girls dress in style without the worry of spending money.
