Page 16 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • July 16, 2014 Obituaries Glenorchy J. Campbell Glenorchy J. Campbell of Ridgewood died July 4. He was 101. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Edson’s Raiders, the First Marine Raider Batallion, was MIA for a time, and was wounded in action on Oct. 9, 1942. He was awarded the Purple Heart in 1944. A graduate of Resurrection Grammar School in Harlem, he later earned a high school diploma from DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. In April of 1923, at age 10, he worked opening day at Yankee Stadium. By 1929, he had already worked at the Polo Grounds and Yankee Sta- dium selling newspapers, peanuts, and more. He worked constantly to help his mother support the family of seven. His jobs included working as a messenger/runner on Wall Street. He also worked at Rogers Peet & Co., the U.S. Rail- way Mail, the Ridgewood Post Office, Armored Courier, and Purolator. He is survived by his children Denise J. Campbell of Hoboken, Heather A. Campbell of Boston, Massachusetts, Glenorchy P. Campbell of New York, New York, Kevin M. Campbell of Chesterfield, Virginia, and Tara C. Campbell of Fair Lawn. He is also survived by six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Mar- garet Brett and his siblings Agnes M. Campbell, John J. Campbell, Helen Campbell McDermott, Catherine Camp- bell Hughes, Alexander M. Campbell, and Josephine A. Campbell. Arrangements were made by C.C. Van Emburgh in Ridgewood. Entwistle of Glen Rock died July 8. He was 87. He was a graduate of Haverstraw High School and worked many years in the banking industry, retiring from both European American Bank in New York and Hudson City Savings Bank. He is survived by his wife Millicent (Knapp) and his daughter Barbara DeLaat. He is also sur- vived by his grandson John DeLaat III and his sister Rhuey Kauffman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Before retiring, he was a product manager for LumaSense Technologies in Oakland. He attended Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Wyckoff. He is survived by his wife Aretoula (nee Turnaritou) Fullam of Ridgewood, his brother Philip Fullam of New Mexico, his nephew Alex, and his niece Jennifer. Hawkins Winifred B. Hawkins of Ridgewood died June 7 at the Chelsea at Bald Eagle in West Milford. She was 100. She was a graduate of Ridgewood High School Class of 1931. She lettered in field hockey and was the accompa- nist for the school’s a cappella choir. She taught piano and organ privately, was the organist at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ridgewood for more than two decades, and led the Ridgewood a Cappella Singers, a group founded by her brother. In 1975, she joined the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood and founded and led the Sample Singers at the society. She is survived by her children David of Brooklyn and Katherine of Summit, New York. She is also survived by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband John F. (Jack) Hawkins, and her siblings Charles M. A celebration of her life will be held there on Aug. 23 at 1 p.m. Celestine M. Hoffman Celestine M. Hoffman, nee Murphy, of Ridgewood died July 3. She was 80. In 1954, she earned her diploma in cos- tume design from the Maryland Institute for the Promotion of the Mechanic Arts. She received her bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1982, and earned her master’s in 1987 in professional studies/special educa- tion from the Pratt Institute. She later earned a BA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She taught the arts to special education students throughout Bergen County and Rockland County. She also taught at the Ridgewood Art Institute for 40 years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ridgewood. She is survived by her children John McRae, Helen Trovaney, and Michael McRae; her stepchildren Bob Hoffman, Billy Hoffman, and Diane Murray; three grandchildren; and her siblings John K. Murphy II, Jane Murphy Kerns, and E. Hanlon Murphy. She was predeceased by her husband Robert and her son James Tyler McRae. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. She worked in Manhattan at Levi Strauss for 32 years. She played on the Phillies softball team in the Wyckoff Women’s Softball League. She was a supporter of the Avon Foundation and completed the 39-mile Avon Walk in New York every year for nearly a decade. She is survived by her husband Barry Miller and her children Bryan Couchenour, Jessica Miller, and Alex Miller. Anthony Thomas Pallo Anthony Thomas Pallo, nee Palombaro, of Ridgewood died July 4. He was 95. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended the University of Rochester and graduated in 1950 from Syracuse University with a B.S. in business administration. He held executive and research positions at Forbes, Grand Union, and Bonbright Invest- ments. In the 1960s, he founded Infoproof, Inc. He was president of the Italian American Men’s Business Asso- ciation in Rochester, New York. In the early 1970s, he purchased Staten Securities of Staten Island, New York, a stock brokerage and investment firm. As president, he eventually moved the company to Wall Street and then to Glen Rock. He was a member of the National Association of Securities Dealers. After retiring, he was a member of the Hobbyist Club of Ridgewood. He is survived his chil- dren Mary Ann George of Yorktown Heights, New York, Paul Pallo of Mahwah, and Tom Pallo of Manhattan. Yolman and John Yolman, her nieces, the extended families of the Norkelyns and Savacools, and by her dear friend Marion Damsma and family. She was predeceased by her husband William A. Payne.
